The new-look 151 Avenue A



Workers removed the scaffolding and sidewalk bridge from outside 151 Avenue A last week, revealing a new look here between Ninth Street and 10th Street. Going with... hunter green?

The building was sold in the summer of 2018 for $9.5 million, per public records. The seller was linked to Ascot Properties NYC LLC while the buyer was listed as 151 Avenue A Member LLC with an address of their law firm.

Here's a look at the building from last fall as gut renovations were underway... it appeared that the residential portion of the building was vacant ...


[Fall 2019]

Last fall we watched workers carry in steel beams (photos by Steven!). According to the approved permits via the Department of Buildings, there was an "interior renovation of hallways and replacement of structural elements ... on floors 2 though roof. Replacement of stair bulkhead."







Throughout the renovation, the retail tenant, Quick Repair & Electronics, was able to remain open.

    Nicely painted fire escape and window frames? I'll take any color they want to paint the building. The diversity of colors isn't bad, they maintained the original aesthetic, and they refurbished the exterior. Good for them. We should celebrate this.

    I would call this spruce or sage or possibly even fern rather than hunter green. :) Paint chips aside, this is gorgeous. I hope that the interiors of this c. 1900 beauty were not completely gutted.

    Sorry to disagree, but painting exterior brick is almost always a really bad idea. This paint job is not likely to hold up well.

    There were three choices painted on the bricks on the third floor, green was the choice. The windows were actually already there before the building was sold. Hope the paint lasts, the Icon building a few doors down at Ninth and A is already showing areas of peeling paint.

    I'm reminded of the time a couple of years ago they tried to paint the Temperance fountain.
