A return visit

It has been a few weeks since we've seen any of the juvenile red-tailed hawks in Tompkins Square Park... until tonight, when Steven spotted one of Amelia and Christo's 2020 offspring making a return visit...

... doing a load of laundry and looking for the cans of beer stashed in the bushes...

Goggla recently noted that the juveniles are still in the area, but mostly spending time outside the Park.

"The young hawks have stuck around the park much longer this season than I expected, so seeing them throughout the summer has been a welcome gift."

Check out her site for more August photos of the juveniles.

  1. Very funny footage of one of the fledglings using a branch as a trampoline on Goggla's site.

  2. One of the newborns was showing us what the intestines of a pigeon looked like, a couple of weekends ago. It was fascinating and absolutely gross.

  3. For about 4 days in a row last week there was a crazy loud murder of crows out back, finally I went out to look and realized they were harassing one of the hawks, hiding in the tree looking intently at the mourning doves and pigeons. And here I thought the crows were up eating the dove and pigeon eggs...around the same time the old sick pigeon that had been hanging sadly around banished by the other birds vanished and a single big drop of blood appeared on my air conditioner....
