Ralph’s Famous Italian Ices opens on today on Avenue A

The EV outpost of Ralph’s Famous Italian Ices and Ice Cream officially opens today at 145 Avenue A at Ninth Street.

Daily hours: 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

The business dates to 1928 when Ralph Silvestro started selling Italian ice (or water ice) from his truck around Staten Island. The first retail store opened in 1949 on Port Richmond Avenue in Staten Island. In recent years the company has franchised out, expanding to other parts of NYC as well as Long Island, New Jersey and Westchester County.

This marks the third outpost in Manhattan.

    I am excited for this! Someone on the last post about Ralph's made some anti–soft serve comments, but if you really stop to think about it, soft-serve/froyo is underrepresented in the EV in 2020. We are no longer in the heady early-middle 2010s when a Funkiberry could open five storefronts down from a 16 Handles five storefronts down from an OG Tasti DLite. We need this right now. Also, tristate represent!

    Those who are Anti-Soft Serve, who also known by the acronym A.S.S., really need to give Ralph’s a try. It is some of the best ice cream around.

    I love Ralph’s! Great ice cream and the dudes are friendly. A welcome addition to the neighborhood. I feel bad for the nice people who worked at Gelarto but the management was not in sync with the East Village.

    This place is an eyesore plain and simple and is doing business in a building that is the subject of a long term boycott by long term residents.

    Tried it yesterday - a bit pricey, but the cherry coke ices (ice?) were pretty damned good.

    Stop with the negativity and be supportive of businesses opening during this time. They’re keeping the city alive. I love Ralph’s and will be bringing my boys here as often as I can.
