Open Culture on the Open Streets of Avenue B

Tomorrow (Saturday!), several community groups and artists are coming together for Open Culture, an afternoon "to lounge, listen to music and help draw a giant street mural with tape artist Kuki."

This is happening from 1-5 p.m. on Avenue B between Eighth Street and Ninth Street.

  2. Plan is Corruption ! Corruption! Corruption!
    Main the current park.
    1. Build a "High Line" structure similar to Chelsea Highline above the current park.
    2. Build a multi stories building the size of football stadium in the sky ( may be 6 or 7 stories)
The top floor can be a multi purpose football stadium, baseball, track.(open air or coverable sky light)
The floors below floor 1 to 5 cane tennis, running track, gym, retail sport or food shop and car park.

  4. Open Streets is not all rainbows and unicorns for everyone. There are many people who live in this neighborhood that have to wake up and go to work everyday, and come home tired at the end of the day, in their CARS. We used to have a quiet, orderly streets to come home to at least and rejuvenate for the next day. Now we have barriers up causing traffic congestion, loads of people crowding the sidewalks and street with open containers of alcohol, leaving huge messes in Tompkins and everywhere else, bikes forced onto sidewalks, and loud patios and sheds taking up all of our parking spots. Why should a restaurant be able to take public space for private profit? Why can't I build a street patio outside my apartment then for mine and my neighbor's enjoyment? I saw a guy yesterday sporting a "War on Cars" T-shirt. Apparently he and half the neighborhood want this French countryside biking, walking and sipping wine in the park all day utopia. Some of us are still trying to work here and build this city and make shit. We can't all be on Zoom and SM all day. Have some consideration for the working class.
