This Zero Waste Shop and Refillery is the creation of local residents Jaclyn Roster (below left) and Em Hynes....
Here's more via the shop's website:
Our mission at A Sustainable Village is to support our community in making small, sustainable changes that are both good for you and the environment. We've taken the Zero Waste Pledge to reduce plastic waste by choosing sustainable essential products and living a low-waste lifestyle. Our motto is progress not perfection! Little steps can lead to a big impact. We invite all to help fight Climate Change and reduce plastic waste from our city.
A Sustainable Village sells several plastic-free essentials for the kitchen and bathroom ...
The big draw so far is the shop's refill station... offering a variety of soaps and cleaning products... you can bring in your own container or use one of their free upcycled jars...
A Sustainable Village is open Tuesday-Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. You can follow them on Instagram here.
Great addition to the 9th Street block! Good luck.
ReplyDeleteThe refill station is an excellent idea. Grocery stores in Europe have them for shampoo and detergent - the US needs to get on board with this as well. Happy to have a local business help us get there!
ReplyDeleteI love it We totally need a place such as this. I am eco friendly and against the waste and excess use of plastic in all areas of my life. I am always in search of how I can access refills of soap products and whatnot as an alternative to purchasing additional plastic soap bottles at Target or at the supermarket like many people do everyday without a thought in the world. Europe is usually one step ahead of us when it pertains to social and environmental issues. I wish other businesses in the US were concerned about this. As an EV resident, I will definitely pay this new store a visit very soon. I wish these owners the best :)
ReplyDeleteI've been waiting for something like this to open up in the neighborhood, this is fantastic! Plastic is evil, let's do anything we can to reduce the use of it!
ReplyDeleteI'll be by this week, see you soon!
Good Luck 🍀 Ladies 👍👍
ReplyDeleteThis is great! Filling the big void of missed Sustainable NY on Avenue A
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU for the supportive comments, neighbors!! We have been so warmly welcomed by everyone. Stop in and see us! ~Jaclyn
ReplyDeleteWishing them the best of luck. Just so you know, long time EV gem the Good Food Coop on 4th Street between Second Avenue and Bowery is a nonprofit that sells refillable, bulk, soaps, lotions, shampoo, cleaners and food.
