As previously reported, Wegmans signed a 30-year lease in July for what will be the grocer's first Manhattan outpost. It is scheduled to open in the second half of 2023.
Kmart closed in this space after 25 years on July 11. Wegmans had agreed to buy out Kmart's lease to make this deal possible.
Anyone miss Kmart this holiday season?
Actually, the time to miss K-Mart will be the after-holiday sales.
ReplyDeleteStill miss K-mart.
ReplyDeleteSorry kiddos. K Mart will soon be a thing of the past. Just read more closures throughout the US. Can't wait for the arrival for Wegmans. Time for a serious upgrade.
ReplyDeleteIt will be just too far from me to even think about any serious shopping but maybe a specialty item or two.
ReplyDeleteTwo years feels like an eternity.
ReplyDeleteWegman's: good luck to them, but if what I hear about their prices is correct, I'd need to start saving up my $$$ right now, in order to ever be able to shop there for anything.
ReplyDeleteI wish Food Emporium at 14th & 4th Ave. were still around.
And K-Mart, yeah, we all hated the idea of it when it was "new" but now I find myself wishing I could still pop in there for misc. things.
You know Wegman's is going to be v. high-end when they make sure their empty window space is attractively decorated on a seasonal basis TWO YEARS before they expect to open. Somebody's paying for those lovely window decors.
ReplyDeleteLike a case of the clap…actually, every time I wait for the M8 bus across the street I wish I could go in. Don't know if Wegman's will deliver the same low-budget "oomph" as Kmart, although I'll appreciate having yet another option for vegan/organic food shopping in the area.
