Dec. 22's parting shot

Joe Strummer (aka John Graham Mellor) died on this day in 2002 at age 50.

As always, a photo (from the other day) of Dr. Revolt's mural circa 2004 outside Niagara on Seventh Street and Avenue A.

And now, enjoy this interview on CBS 2 with Joe Strummer and Paul Simonon from 1982...

  1. Right before a Clash reunion. There's no God, definitely.

  2. Joe can blather on about politics but he certainly did not come from a working class background (his father was an upperclass Brit diplomat). I also take issue with the Clash's glomming on to American music even though as good as they were at it , to me, it came across as a kind of affectation. I definitely would not have like to see a reunion as Strummer's band post Clash, The Mescalaros, was doing far more interesting music. Joe, poor chap, was not someone who was into "normal drinking" as rumor had it he would often wind blackout drunk at Save The Robots on Ave B. Wish you were here. RIP.
