Citizens of the neighborhood prepare to say hello to this new bank branch

Photos by Steven

The HSBC-Citizens Bank switcheroo officially happens today on the SW corner of Second Avenue and Ninth Street...
Not sure what kind of festivities will take place to mark the occasion. (Do banks still give away toasters? If not, then they should.)

As previously reported on EVG, HSBC agreed last spring to sell 80 of its 148 U.S. branches to Providence, R.I.-based Citizens Bank.

  1. Several years ago, I collected vintage toasters, including a couple of flapper toasters, a Toast-o-Lator, and two of the Sunbeam T-9 "World's Fair" toaster. (Yes, if readers here hadn't guessed by now, I'm eccentric AF.

I'm not sure what I'd do with a bank toaster; I don't even like toast. [rimshot]

  2. My guess is they will give away NYC ID's you know in keeping with the 'Citizen's motif.

  3. Very early vintage toasters are oddly handsome; I've long considered buying one as a display piece!
