Bracing for new construction at the former B Bar & Grill space on the Bowery

Demolition continues over at the former B Bar & Grill space on the Bowery at Fourth Street.

This past week, steel braces arrived on the wall adjacent to the property — 356 Bowery...
Not sure if these are to support the adjacent building during the demo or if they are part of the foundation for the incoming 21-story office building slated for the former restaurant space.

The B Bar (b 1994) never reopened after the PAUSE in March 2020. Our previous posts have more background on this development via Bowery Hotel owner Eric Goode.

    I walk around these days and just feel depressed. So many vibrant and interesting businesses are gone, being replaced by boring office space or lux apartments that no one will ever see the inside of. The life is really being sucked out of the area.

    9:56 AM: You are absolutely right. I feel like I live in a mall with a lot of bars, few services, or affordable restaurants. When you have to go at least two avenues over for a decent egg, bagel, cheese and can't find a cobbler it feels nothing like NYC.

    I feel the same way. There are so few of the small, mom-and-pop, cozy, quirky establishments left that made the East Village what it was and made it so popular (unfortunately). They'll be calling us Murray Hill South soon. BYW there's still a shoemaker on 4th Ave & 13th Street and Little Poland at Second Avenue and 12th Street is still a great diner.

    I still feel bad for the loss of those six great tall Honey Locust trees that were cut down and thrown out by the contractor and not to forget all those trees cut down at the East River Park. This City is so anti-nature it is incredible.
