The fruit vendor is BACK on 1st Avenue and 6th Street

From the tipline... after a weeks-long, late-winter hiatus, the fruit vendor is back on the SE corner First Avenue and Sixth Street. A reader saw the cart return last night.

H/T Steph and Isa!

  1. Welcome news! Looks especially well stocked with berries. A beer in the sun at International and then fruit for the week. Life is good in NY.

There are too many damn bikes. The bike stands are never empty so why are there so many? Thankful the fruit vendor guy was able to return! Call Carlina Rivera's office to complain about an entire block long row of unused bikes!

  7. I agree @carol from East 5th Street

This citibike docks are OUT OF CONTROL.
Obviously it's about advertising dollars, it's really starting to annoy me.
And not sure why they moved that one off the very wide sidewalk either. Fruit man used tom be able to put his van there.

    1. The maintenance staff at Village View traverse the property carts to remove the garbage and recycling. Though that sidewalk is wide, with the bike docks, pedestrians, and the VV staff, it became impassible at times. Moving the docks to the curb was a better idea but I'd rather they weren't there at all, as you and others have stated we are becoming overrun with these bikes and it is quite annoying.

  8. Hurrah, welcome back!

I felt terrible when the bike rack was extended all the way to 6th street, making it impossible for the fruit vendor to park his van there. In cold weather, he uses it to stay warm. I'm wondering if that's why he had to leave.

Also, why not put the bike rack on the other side of the avenue where the bike lane is? As it is, cyclists have to cross the bus lane and the entire avenue to come/go from the rack. That makes no sense to me and seems unsafe.
