The 34th annual Tompkins Square Park Riot reunion shows are happening this weekend

The free concerts commemorating the 34th anniversary of the Tompkins Square Police Riot of Aug. 6, 1988, are happening this weekend.

Bands are set to play Saturday and Sunday from 2-6 p.m.

On Saturday, they'll be vegan and non-vegan tacos of all sorts by Rachel Jean, who's also in Bitch Switch (making their NYC debut).

  1. Wondering how many people who were actually at the riot in 88 are still alive today ? I suggest dedicating this weekend to Uncle Don Yippie and David Peel who were there and are now dead. Anyone who remembers others please post their names.

  3. I was around then. There’s a lot of people still around from that time. A lot of people are no longer in NYC. But there’s many who still are. Go to a NYHC event. Look for grey hair. 😃😃😃😃

  6. Sunday's show looks great with longtime East Village singer/songwriter, Val Kinzler, who regularly puts on downtown concerts featuring women rockers. Jennifer Blowdryer is another iconic East Village performer performing on Sunday. Thank you for this 2 day show.

  7. My X Wife Nozomi Oye was not at the actual riot she was working at the Chamelion Bar on 6th St. that night. As the night went on she pullded down the shutters on the front of the bar and when people knocked she would look to see who it was and if they were people she knew Nozomi let them in. It soon looked like an emergency room with drunk victims of police brutality bleeding onto clear bar towels which she gave out. At one point a gang of cops started banging on the bar front with night stick so people barricaded it and after a while the cops left. On hell of a night for both of us. Nozomi died in Cali about 10 years ago.

  8. Those riots were what we used to call in early 80s London, Friday night.

  9. 1874, 1988, 2022 economic hardship stresses our neighborhood and city. The police are Incapable of providing socially significant results.
The Big Apple is full of splinters, difficult to digest, technology has worsened competency to advocate any decent result. Plutocracy is fact, denial of that verity is self-inflicted and ceaseless. Talking to one another face to face is the only way to fight injustice, community can be a balm that unites solace. Angry old people are insufferable, live with it!
