Belse Restaurant Bar & Brewery has closed its doors at 265-267 Bowery.
A sign for patrons of the high-end vegan restaurant notes the permanent closure ...
Despite that note, the restaurant's Instagram account states: "We are excited to announce that this location will transition to a new vegan restaurant. More information will be upcoming, but we think you'll be happy with the change."
If one vegan concept doesn't succeed...
Belse debuted here between Houston and Stanton this past June ... the storefront had been empty since Paulaner shuttered in early 2018 after four years in service.
The shutdown destroyed the Bowery. It’s a dead area now and as usual landlords want top dollar for a desert.
ReplyDeleteWow I am surprised that they closed. However, after reading your post, I remembered that I walked by that place all the time, but I never went in or really saw many customers in that establishment either. It just had a strange vibe to it, a German brewery type bar that served Vegan food? It just did not seem like a good mix.
ReplyDelete9:50 That Bowery wasn't frequent by locals anyway, not great loss. Just another weekend party destination.
ReplyDeleteIt was a great place, enjoyed by locals.
Deletei live in the area and walked oat it all tbe time. Place was always empty. Not vegan so never wanted to try it. The problem is that it's way too big of a space for a vegan concept. It was too big for Paulaner for that matter. It was doomed from the start
ReplyDeleteDifficult to believe they couldn’t even last a year. One would assume that a business has enough in the bank to get through their first year still in the red. Seems…weird.
ReplyDeleteJust started going there as all beers were $5, and pretty good. But I knew it was an act of desperation and would be shut shortly. RIP Belse.
ReplyDeleteThe stout was terrific and a bloody bargain! Great fries too.
ReplyDeleteI’ll miss it
The food was delicious and the staff were super nice. RIP.
ReplyDeleteGhosts from Sammy's Bowery Follies refuse to be exorcisted. Perhaps a Sammy's redux..
ReplyDeleteWent there once in December ordered two beers, pumpkin soup, and two entrees as a dinner date before a film. We don’t experiment much with our food choices because we go out to eat like once a month, anyways was greatly disappointed. The beers had nothing but foam and all of the food was cold. Terrible experience.
ReplyDeleteIt was so good!! I’ll miss it.
ReplyDeleteI was a regular at Sammy's Bowery Folles on that site while a college student on the mid to late sixties. A gem of a place which I still miss...
