Ayat, a Palestinian bistro with several Brooklyn outposts, including the original in Bay Ridge, is opening its first Manhattan outpost on the NW corner of Seventh Street and Avenue C later this year.
EVG contributor Stacie Joy met owners Akram Nassir (left) and Abdul Elenani outside the space, where interior renovations are underway...
Elenani and his team have been busy expanding in the five boroughs, with multiple new locations and concepts in the works, as Eater previously reported.
The East Village location will offer Middle Eastern/Palestinian food — and no alcohol.
Zum Schneider, the popular biergarten and restaurant, closed here after 20 years in late February 2020.
In November 2020, a jokester attached a fake sign to the storefront stating that a McDonald's was opening here.
Be nice if they were able to save the quirky wood doors from the Zum Schneider storefront.
ReplyDeleteI am happy this space is now occupied. These men seem like nice people. The best part perhaps is the no alcohol aspect of their business. What I don't miss about the former tenant was the loud music and drunk patrons making excessive noise late in the evening as I tried to sleep across the street in my apartment. With the onset of rowdy bars on this block already, this will be a nice departure from the chaos. Welcome to the neighborhood.
ReplyDeleteI very much missed Zum during the pandemic. I could have certainly calmed my nerves with a big outdoor beer.
ReplyDeleteyay! if it is anything like https://goo.gl/maps/twfqy84bzSSzKMMz7 then we're in for something special. I don't know if the math can work without alcohol but hopefully they got a deal on the rent.
ReplyDeleteThe best middle eastern food a new Yorker can consume and ran by the most active restaurateur, Abdul Elenani.
ReplyDeleteThese guys seem nice and I'm happy that the place will be filled finally.
ReplyDeleteThe building did Zum schneider dirty. That place was an institution in our neighborhood, and it led the charge to getting nicer places on Ave C.
I'll miss zum schneider though. We're all worse off for it not being here.
Nice! Sounds like a good addition to the neighborhood. Here's hoping Zum Schneider reopens one of these days. Maybe one of the many vacant spots on B?
ReplyDeleteAyat is so good - this is great news.
ReplyDeleteI’ve been to Ayat as well as their restaurant Al-Badawi. Food is OUTSTANDING! And expect a very colorful and elaborate decor
ReplyDeleteI don't feel worse off for by Zum being gone. Places come and go, life carries on. Not such a disaster.
ReplyDeleteI am so excited for this! Best of luck to the new owners - welcome to our new neighbors!!!
ReplyDeleteBest of luck! Welcome to the neighborhood! And I agree w/ other posters, may be best w no alcohol . So many drunks already
ReplyDeleteBTW, as a non-drinker I'm kind of happy this place will be alcohol-free; alcohol isn't a total deal-breaker for me—not in this city—but just a glance at the menu tells me I'm probably going to be going here a lot regardless, or at least getting take-out.
