A little after 6 this evening, sanitation employees shut down Sixth Street between First Avenue and Avenue A...
... so that workers could powerwash off some street graffiti...
... oh...
... and as seen on Friday night...

  2. LOL I saw the "artwork" last week over on the west side of 1st Ave and was momentarily confused. It looked like it had been written by a utility worker and I thought that can't be right...and then I thought I should send a pic into EVG! Alas, I forgot. LOL.

  3. So this brings up a question I realize I have always had…what is the reason people draw this “body part” in public places? Like what is that? I assume males are drawing these? Or is that a sexist assumption? What do the artists “get” out of it drawing these?

    1. I’ve always wondered about this too. This has been a regular thing since forever. Very common in public men’s rooms. I am male so I don’t use women’s rooms but I’m gonna guess that girls don’t draw vaginas in the ladies room.

    2. Correct. I have never seen a vagina drawn in a female bathroom

  5. They probably painted that there to draw attention to the pothole. In most cities if you, ahem, *someone* draw something obscene around or adjacent to potholes, the city realizes they are slackin’ and comes to repair it. Two observations: one, the pothole doesnt seem that big, and two: New York in case it hasnt been noticed is Not Like Other Cities - so we’ll gladly pay our DSNY guys to powerwash a cocknballs and shut down a block, rather than do actual repairs, and probably take the same amount of time in the washing as they would've in the repaving. My advice dont let potholes slow you down whatever your preferred mode of travel; dont let a painting of a cocknballs impede your flow either (no matter how gross and hairy); and if all else fails, you can easily purchase a couple brick’s size worth of quickset concrete and just go plop it in the offending hole yourself. Dont let the boys in blue or the karens and busybodies catch ya; just mix it around the corner and decant it into a Big Gulp™ cup or folded newspaper and you can patch ‘n’ fill™ like a pro in about 5 seconds flat and nobody the wiser as you amble away to your coffee date. Don’t forget to smooth and flatten, cuz an unwelcome concrete protrusion is as bad as a hole in the street. And maybe wear gloves because quikset™ sets…quick.

  7. The remove the criminal drawings so that contractors do not get confused with actual markups, dig and hit a gas line. Which could be real trouble and also cause people here to complain about negligent contractors. But, what do I know?

    1. Say what? If you were a contractor, and you saw a penis painted on the street, would you be thinking, ah yes homeboy, this is where I need to dig.

  10. So the trick to getting the city to deal with the never-ending graffiti in the neighborhood is to draw dicks on it? Got it. The superhero calling, I never knew I needed!
