Parks Department collecting concerns and compliments

Photos by Steven

These signs arrived this past week at Tompkins Square Park (and other public green spaces)...  asking, "How are we doing?"

Specifically: "Report a concern or share a compliment about cleanliness in this area."
Per the sign, you can call (212) NEW-YORK ... text 311-692 or visit this website.

Can't think of any concerns residents may have about Tompkins...

  1. Please stop defecating in the park. Thank you.

  2. sort of laughable given how govt has given up on the park

  3. How can any of us take this absurd sign seriously when the park is now only cleaned once a week? Many parts of Tompkins now reek of urine because there are no working toilets along with some of the migrants relieving themselves. Not so great with the warmer months coming up.

  4. This sign is stupid as they know they are doing an awful job.

  5. Maybe they need data and the squeakiest wheel will get some funding? Worth a try. Let’s call!

  6. I was going to say something about wasting money on this sign, but it seems to be generic and applicable to all parks. So, perhaps the Parks Dept is going to prioritize complaints according to the number of responses. This is incentive to send feedback.

  7. Just try calling 311; you'll be plunged into voicemail hell and be put on hold for hours…however, I love to use the 311 app on my phone and use it often—particularly now that I have a next-door neighbor that's literally up until 5 AM with his loud music. Has no idea there's anything wrong with this.

So I'm saying: text early and text often!
