A tree-mendous scene

Workers from NYC Parks were spotted planting new trees today on Second Avenue at Sixth Street ... thanks to Carol from East 5th Street for the pic.

And FYI: This link has info on requesting a new tree for a block.

  1. They also put a new tree in front of 75
Saint Marks Place this afternoon. They
had busted up the cement there about
2 weeks ago. And there’s another
apparent spot at 79 Saint Marks. They
dug that at the same time but no tree
yet. Hopefully the drunken humans and
the dog owners will be respectful.

  3. It makes me crazy that they spend a lot of money to put in the trees ( which is wonderful ) then do nothing to protect them from the knuckleheads that respect nothing...Put a fence or something to give the trees a chance...ok, I am done~

  4. Also, a new tree was planted today on E. 10th St. between Avenue A & B on the Tompkins Square Park side of the street. Hooray! Makes me feel a little bit better about the beautiful old-growth elm tree that they chopped down the other day behind the offices under construction in the Park. Now they need to replace the 2 saplings that died last year due to lack of weekly watering by company the city pays to do this for the first 2 years. My husband and I tried to carry buckets of water across the street as often as possible to keep them alive, but were only able to save some of the new trees during the hottest summer months along the Park side of E. 10th St.

  6. @mal - I don’t disagree and know this isn’t in everyone’s budget, but wanted to share that you can have a tree guard installed at a specific tree with a donation. https://www.nycgovparks.org/trees/tree-care/nyc-parks-tree-time

I know that last year’s CB3 tree survey resulted in some tree guards to be scheduled for installation around saplings. I’m not sure where, but I would imagine contacting someone at the link above would answer that question!

  7. These trees require a lot of water. Please consider watering any new tress especially in between rain storms.

  8. Great, love trees! There are 2 dead trees on 1st ave between 12th and 13th st, in front of the Hamburger place. They both have brick all around, no dirt, I hope they get to those , maybe plant 2 new ones. We've called 311 with no luck. Thank EV Grieve.
