Macy’s Fireworks returning to the East Side, home of all things spectacular

Image via Macy's

ICYMI: After a year abroad, the Macy's July 4th fireworks are returning to the East River.

According to a city press release, the 49th edition of the fireworks will launch from the Brooklyn Bridge and four surrounding barges in the East River at the South Street Seaport.

And if you want to get close to the live-viewing action:
Additional details on public viewing locations, live broadcast details, and a city-sponsored lottery for free public viewing tickets will be announced in the coming weeks.
With the East 10th Street pedestrian bridge closed and Greenway access limited up to Stuyvesant Cove, we're curious how congested the remaining open sections of East River Park might get during the fireworks.

I used to go in person to watch the fireworks, and it's always an amazing display. But now that I'm elderly, I'd be fine watching it on TV *if* someone at Macy's had 2 brain cells to rub together and would realize that they need to point one or two cameras at the actual FIREWORKS DISPLAY and just leave those cameras alone, instead of changing the view every 5 seconds like a hyped-up toddler!

Given that Macy's is going to send (literally) hundreds of thousands of dollars up in smoke, JUST SHOW IT on TV CLEARLY & CONTINUOUSLY FROM START TO FINISH, for heaven's sake. No one needs to have a camera showing the upturned faces of the people there who are enjoying the view that WE cannot see at that moment!

I just don't understand how Macy's can be this persistently stupid.

To 9:16 am: THANK YOU for expressing my thoughts exactly! Get rid of any shots of the celebrity hosts, performers, and audience during the actual fireworks and just show the fireworks. Hey Spectrum NY1, maybe you could show the fireworks live with a fixed rooftop camera? The view in the sky is public domain, right?

I love seeing them right outside my windows!

Works for me - I can see them partially from my bedroom window.

i knew someone was going to be mad here in the comments - was not expecting it to be about the quality of the patriotic propagandist programming!

They'll be back on the Hudson next year for OpsSail and the big Semiquincentennial. Good luck saying that fast 3 times.

Lol, sitting here at Macy's on my lunch break reading... you got to love the comments. You'll always have haters and lovers no matter what platform. I'll chose to look to the positive side☺️

Live in Brooklyn a few blocks from where these will be going off. Massive amount of smoke generated from these, massive crowds in Brooklyn Heights, so will watch on TV. I remember the fireworks for the Bridge's centenerary; now those were wonderful!

We are fortunate to be able to see most all of it from our humble roof when they are over the east side the way G-- intended.

Yes! I love fireworks and the Macys are really superb. I too want to see the FIREWORKS. That’s why I tune in. And inevitably I get so bummed that they hardly bother to show them during the broadcasting. They are generally set to music, so it really is something when you can watch the fireworks with music in the background (not in your face) noise. I don’t need a performance. I’m here for the fireworks! People—grow an attention span, will you?!
Is there some other channel/site that will broadcast them? I’d love to actually watch them again.

While you're LOL-ing, and "choosing to look to the positive side," I guess you believe that YOU will never be old or disabled. Because that only happens to other people, right?
