ICYMI: Wayne & Sons has left the East Village for Williamsburg

You may have noticed that the storefront at 221 Second Ave. between 13th Street and 14th Street is now vacant.

After a year and change here, crunchy taco specialists Wayne & Co. announced a move to a larger space in Williamsburg. That spot opened on Jan. 13 at 57 S. Fifth St.

No word on what's next for No. 221. Dear Rufino, another taco shop was only in operation here for a few months before moving to West 50th Street in the spring of 2024.

Could it be the curse of the Colonel on the corner of 14th and Second?

  1. The Brooklyn (oops, Crooklyn) address is 57 S. 5th Street.

  2. Thanks, bill... I'm always writing E. 5th for some reason...

  3. That spot used to be Finnertys. Then it became a chicken tender spot. Then a taco spot. Then a Tex-Mex. I've heard numerous complaints about the shady landlord.

    1. All of them, besides maybe the last incarnation, were just a front for the speakeasy at the back, so genzees could say on ticktock they had discovered a "secret" spot behind a fried chicken place, although it has a completely separate entrance. Pathetic.

  4. These tacos were pretty awesome, but opening hours were erratic and the sidewalk shed was drafty

  5. If you have an ampersand in your name you have to move to Williamsburg. It's the rules.

  6. That place is so tiny I don't know how any place can really succeed there. Even the (illegal) sidewalk shed didn't help.
