Police searching for suspects in 2nd Avenue carjacking

The 1990s may be having a cultural revival with "Love Story" — but not every throwback is welcome.

Police are searching for four suspects in a carjacking involving a rideshare driver last week in the East Village.

According to authorities, the 51-year-old driver was sitting in his vehicle near Third Street and Second Avenue around 1:30 a.m. on March 23 when a group approached and asked for a ride. When he declined, one of the individuals displayed a firearm, and the group stole the vehicle, police said.

The suspects drove off, and the car was later recovered in Newark, per media reports.

The driver was not injured.

The NYPD released the video clip via X... Tips can be shared confidentially with Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or online.

When I see someone wearing a face mask I automatically assume shadiness. Perhaps unfair to the immunocompromised, but fuck 'em.

Giuliani was the worst mayor that we ever had. He should self-deport to
Mar-A-Lago and stay drunk

You obviously did not live in NYC before, during and after Giuliani.

Safest we been under Giuliani AND Bloomberg. Bring back stop n frisk. We are too soft on crime. This is coming from a real NYer from the ghetto speaking. Crime is loose and you can do anything and get out of jail the next day. Wake up, NYC looks horrible for one of the best cities in the world! Transit system vs Japanese is laughable. The amount of tax we pay?! Such a sad place we're at.

I did. My parents and siblings did as well (1970s came here and grew up 90s)... Giuliani inheritted the CRACK PANDEMIC from 80s if you don't remember... Guiliani later years (late 90s early 2000s) crime drastically reduced and also continued with Bloomberg... Look up the stats in your little AI chat. Born and raised new Yorker here. Don't care about left or right politically side (I am independent). Statistics don't lie. Under guiliani with what he inheritted, he reduced crime by over 60% ... I'm not a math major but that's a downtrend. Was he perfect? Hell no, but need to look at context of what he inheritted as mayor when he came on and how he left. NYC def not safe today
