Tree down in Tompkins

Photos and reporting by Stacie Joy

A tree came down earlier today near the Ninth Street and Avenue B entrance to Tompkins Square Park.

According to a Parks Department employee on the scene, the working assumption is that the tree fell due to today's high winds.

There were no reports of injuries.

The city's Tree Services are on the scene...

  1. Sometimes I wonder what’s going on with the trees.

  3. To the powers that be: please plant another tree right away. When a tree goes down in TS, the space is usually left empty (oddly, for years sometimes) or else used for small plantings. We need trees for any number of good reasons.
