Owners and sisters Marian and Hannah Cheng announced that Sept. 11 will be the last day at 179 Second Ave. between 11th and 12th streets, as the lease ends.
"This 12-year story was built by you, and we're endlessly grateful," they wrote on Instagram.
The closure doesn't mean the end of Mimi Cheng's. The sisters said they are shifting their focus to growing the company's frozen dumpling business, which is now sold in stores nationwide.
"The dumplings aren't going anywhere," they wrote. "They're just getting a bigger home."
The sisters opened the East Village location in July 2014 ... naming the business after their mother, Shirley, whose nickname was Mimi.

Bring back Viva pizza!
Good luck with the dumpling business. Where can I get them locally?
This is such a great spot, especially since it is in close proximity to east village cinema. I will miss those yummy dumplings, Best wishes to the owners.
So many tastier options around each corner
We occasionally find them on the special menu at Glaze Teriyaki on University Place.
There are lots of great dumplings of different types in the EV, but Mimi's are as healthy and delicious as any of them! Thank you and good luck, Hannah and Marian!
