Community gardens take center stage for the 15th annual Harvest Arts Festival

The 15th annual LUNGS Harvest Arts Festival starts Friday (tomorrow!) evening.

This year's festival, which runs through Sept. 27, features more than 50 free events in 30 East Village and Lower East Side community gardens.

The 10-day schedule includes music, poetry, puppetry, theater, opera, dance, workshops and spoken-word performances.

Opening night at La Plaza Cultural, on the southwest corner of Avenue C and Ninth Street, begins at 6 p.m. with the Pressure Point Brass Band. Isabel Estrada Jamison and friends follow at 8 with Afro-Cuban folklore and Rumba de Corazón.

All events are free and do not require tickets or registration. Find the daily, garden-by-garden schedule on the LUNGS website.
