An update from outside the 9th Precinct stationhouse on Fifth Street between First Avenue and Second Avenue: The generator is no longer in use.
The rental generator had been providing power for several systems at the stationhouse since early summer after an electrical problem affected the building's internet, phones and air conditioning.
A quieter unit arrived in late July following complaints from neighbors about the noise from the original generator.
An NYPD source told us that the electrical issue has since been fixed and normal power restored, although the source did not know exactly when the repair was completed.
The generator isn't going anywhere just yet. The NYPD rented the unit for a year, and we're told it will remain outside the stationhouse for the time being — just no longer running around the clock.
