A dormant construction site on East 13th Street

The Post recently reported that there are 39 stalled construction sites in Manhattan. (That's 143 in all five boroughs.) I'm curious about stalled projects in the East Village. One that I've had my eye on: 536 E. 13th Street near Avenue B. Seems awfully quiet here this summer.

For good reason. According to the DOB, there's a Stop Work Order on the six-story apartment/condo going in here. Why the stoppage?

  2. That's terrifying. My building has had a lot of gut renovations (and damage to surrounding apartments) in the last few years, and I sometimes have trouble sleeping when I hear banging and creaking upstairs, convinced the whole place is going to collapse. My heart goes out to the residents of 530 13th.

  3. I'm curious what's next here. It's apparent more construction is out of the question — unless they want a possible collapse next door. What happens to this lot? Community garden?

  4. Looks exactly like the site on First Ave (5th & 6th ?)next to the Rite Aid, same stop work order as well.

  5. I like that you can see right through to 12th Street. This site must be adjacent to the little mini garden on the north side of 12th Street. Wouldn't it be wonderful if the garden could go all the way through to 13th? A girl can dream.

  6. Does anyone know how to go about cleaning this site. I live on e12 st and can see the garbage from my balcony. I would much rather look at a garden or at least a clean empty lot.
