What 10-bedroom house is for sale on East Third Street for $15 milllion?

Well, this just popped up in the real-estate listings...

Not much information at the moment...

I can only think if one 11,000-square foot mansion on East Third Street...but, nah... plus, it's not even a mansion yet...

  1. That was my first thought...wouldn't that be disgustingly hilarious?

  2. While I have little doubt that my former home will be turned into condos/luxury rentals, or sold to NYU or a developer, I'm wondering if this is it yet, since one ad says the adjacent building is for sale as part the deal. Right now, our friends at the Maryhouse are next to them, dealing with the damages and disruption caused by the shoddy demolition going on at 47, although it wouldn't surprise anyone if the economakises were looking for some way to wrest that building from them, too.

  3. Maybe it's the Hell's Angels HQ?

Uh, but seriously...I'll need to canvas Third Street and see if any obvious candidates emerge...

  4. the trulia listing says it's in zip code 10009. that means this mystery place is east of first avenue; the economakis place is between 1st and 2nd aves -- zip code 10003. i do wonder what it could be!

  7. We're pretty sure that the Ardor listing is for the Economakis mansion at 47 East Third that they successfully vacated as of August 31.

We've been keeping tabs on the real estate marketeers on the LES for decades now (they still send us their "set-up sheets") and know from experience that they often get little details like zip codes and other info wrong.

So, despite the legal requirement under the "owner occupancy" loophole that allows landlords to acquire any number of apts in a building for personal use that the Economakises occupy the building they had evacuated under the premise of creating their primary residence there for at least three years, it looks like the Economakises have "changed their minds" and are revealing their true intentions, neighborhood monitors be damned.

Consulting with our attorney buddy about this, it appears that the Economakises only had to claim they wanted to use the building as their primary residence "in good faith," allowing for a change of mind once the removal of tenants was done.

But, it occurs to us that, as the deep-pocketed Economakises were able to wear down the tenants through years of court battling, culminating in a forced settlement from the tenants whereby they agreed to vacate for nominal amounts of pay-off money, the Economakises were able to avoid having to acquire the apts under the premise of creating their primary residence, thereby enabling them to market the building two months later without being subject to any restrictions.

What a bunch of evil cunning calculating scumbags....

  8. I really don't get how the Economakises (et al) can sleep at night.
