Mosiac Man's work painted over on St. Mark's Place

On the northeast corner at Third Avenue. Did this happen recently? For some reason I never noticed before.

  1. At least it's still sort of beautiful this way -- as if Mosaic Man had arranged giant slabs of rock on the surface of the moon. Someone should make a rubbing of the mosaic...

  2. Is that ConEd's handiwork? The city?

    Why?

Should we call 311 to complain and/or lobby for an EV exemption to whatever rule requires silver paint on the base of streetlights for Mosaic Man?

I year or so ago, a bunch of his mosaics, mostly around the park and down 7th St., IIRC, were painted over with metallic paint. He rescued some of them but, I think, a few were goners.

  3. I'm not sure, anon — ConEd and the city are likely equally guilty. The paint does look pretty fresh...
