Why was a helicopter circling the East Village at 4 a.m. or so?

We're getting of sorts of e-mails about a helicopter hovering around the neighborhood early this morning/late last night (depending on your schedule...):

"The helicopter was back last night (1/27/10). Woke me up at 4am, flying very low, was very loud. I'm at 12th and 1st in the EV. Really weird, I can't seem to find any answers."


And!

"I've just been listening to a helicopter circle round and round the EV for about an hour...it seems to have stopped now. It was distinctly creepy..."

    For reals! It was RIGHT above my apartment on 15th st. shining its spotlight down. Any idea what was going on?

    I saw and heard it last night. They were definitely looking for someone, and as soon as they found whoever it was and put a spotlight on them, they were done. Maybe the police blotter will have a clue?

    Just another night in the East Village. I'm at 1st and 10th, and the chopper sounded like it was on top of my building...police activity, obviously.

    Thanks, East Village Feed. Seems likely that it WAS a UFO. And I would have watched more of the video, but I had a seizure about the 27-second mark. Hope they use a tripod next time....

    I live up in Spanish Harlem.
    109th @2nd Avenue.

    The helicopters are back up here, too.
    They've been circling for the last 90 minutes or so. I can here them through my closed windows. Very loud.
