Eater was at the meeting, and they report:
A yet-to-be-named group surfaced with a proposal to utilize the old Butterfly space, a stone's throw away from Sigmund, for a 3,000 square foot Italian restaurant, catering company and lounge "with an occasional D.J." This scenario sounds familiar - and the residents didn't hesitate to show their fresh battle scars from the throes of Le Souk, China 1 and Carnivale, all restaurants-gone-clubs that they say wrecked havoc on the peace and quiet in their 'hood. Needless to say, this was too much for CB3 and the community representatives to stomach, and after a lengthy dispute of pros and cons, the motion was denied.
The Lo-Down was also there... and we can't wait for the rest of their report. As they wrote: "This evening was a bizarre one even for CB3’s SLA Committee. Tomorrow we’ll have details of a series of tense confrontations between CB3’s David McWater and other members of the committee."
UPDATED: Here's their epic McWater report.
I love the claim of an "occasional DJ." In other words, this place is going to be blaring loud music every night!
ReplyDeleteDavid McWater should be unseated for his behavior last night. It was shameful.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't there, anon.... Care to elaborate?
ReplyDeleteI am afraid to sign my name, lest Mr. McWater yell at me while trying to defend my rights as a citizen to stop the onslaught of bars. He is a bully, but luckily the other board members stand up to him very well. Yay to them!
ReplyDeleteAfter a few no votes for licenses within resolution areas (note: these always come first on the agenda and are grouped together), and then after they voted no for this fakey Italian place that was obviously going to become a nightclub, he stood up and began YELLING that he was now going to vote yes on everything to counter those who vote no on everything.
He also made several speeches that I have heard before about how if 10 years ago they had listened to him about how to handle things, we wouldn't be in this mess today.
After, someone commented that it was like being at someone else's dysfunctional Thanksgiving.
thank god this was denied.
ReplyDeleteMcWater doesn't get it. If there are 20 bars on a block, a 21st isn't needed. Who cares if they invested a lot of money and claim they'll be good operators. By his logic, he would approve anyone who invests a lot of money & not deny anyone.
