Chabela's closes on Avenue B

Last spring, Chabela's opened at 40 Avenue B between Third Street and Fourth Street... Now it appears to be closed. Yesterday, workers were removing fixtures from the Dominican eatery...

Before Chabela's, the address was home to Russo's, a pizzaria. What next?

  1. I blame whomever decorated that place. It was so antiseptic and unwelcoming-looking. The chairs were hard fast food chairs and you could have removed an appendix under that harsh hospital lighting. Fine for a fast food joint, but this was a sit-down eatery. Not a good strategy.

I went there once b/c it was always empty and I felt sorry for them. The food was meh but the service was terrible, especially considering we were one of two tables. I'm pretty sure the waitress was high.

  3. Another place that I always said that I'd try...and I never did... Never seemed as if many (or any) people were inside... I always wondered why...
