Did you leave a briefcase with $78,383 inside on the Lower East Side?

You can always count on Craigslist...

Suitcase with $78,383 inside (Lower East Side)

Date: 2010-03-28, 5:10AM EDT

I thought I would at least post this. If you can describe the other items inside I will return. If not I am taking to the Police and after no one claims it I think I can legally own this. It is real hard posting this. But I know it is the right thing to do.

So you write back with the descriptions.

Color of Briefcase:
How many combinations on the suitcase/ bill types:
Other items inside:

My girlfriend is shaking her head and staring at me as I post this....i think it is the right thing to do.

[Update: Yep, it's a fake post. The Voice has the story. It was a social experiment!]

  1. Very sweet of this guy, but if he takes it to the police, they will keep it as evidence and eventually keep the money for themselves. They're certainly not going to give it to this guy!

  2. Is this even real? Or just another publicity grab of some sort?

  3. To the dude who found this:

It belongs to the Columbian Cartel Dude!

And for all you know they're tracing your IP (and you) through CL right now!

Maybe you should consider JFK as your next step in this great adventure...

  5. it's gotta be stealth marketing. for a movie. or a tv show. no one is that stupid to hand in that much found money to the police.

  6. it was a "social experiment" created by a God-loving, motivational-writing US Marine.

but you apparently started a viral thing that would have ended up with the NY Post stealing your story:

  10. I'm disappointed there weren't many creative responses to the ad. I was expecting something involving a pound of heroin and an evil dwarf.
