I finally spotted two diners outside Dallas BBQ on St. Mark's. I would have taken their photo, but, I thought, they deserved to eat in peace for being this brave...

Newsflash! Not a lot of people were dining outside last evening
OK, no shit given that it was like 400 degrees at this hour, maybe 6:30ish...(a little early for dinner, yes, but still...a lot of these places have happy hour specials). Anyway, while wandering aimlessly, I realized... no one was eating outside. There are always a few brave souls who insist on eating outside no matter how extreme... so, in a really unscientific manner, I walked by some places with outdoor seating to find them...

the only benefit to this oppressive heat--all the loudmouths stay inside.
ReplyDeleteTable 12 on 12th and A offers what has to be some of the most unappealing outdoor seating in the East Village. There is no awning, no railing, no plants, no nothing. They really need to spruce it up if they want anyone to sit out there!
ReplyDeletei saw people eating outside at benny's burritos and also at sidewalk and thought, "why?"
ReplyDeleteEVG, really appreciate your man-on-the-street efforts!
ReplyDeleteIt was way to hot for anything yesterday! There was a girl eating outside of Kafana, she made it to about 2 bites into her app. then came inside.
ReplyDeleteI saw a woman eating outside at Maryann's and thought she was nuts. Also, the bar/restaurants on W Broadway down around Grand/Broome were all full and had their doors and windows wide open. Insane.
ReplyDeleteIf they had any brains they would replace the tables with a giant sign that says "Come Eat In Our Air Conditioned Bliss."

ReplyDeleteHa! Good idea!
