Please do not attempt any of this in the new First Avenue bike lanes

The King of New York BMX competition rolled into Tompkins Square Park over the weekend...

Thanks to EV Grieve reader Steve for the photos...

And I hope that nobody gets any funny ideas now about the new First Avenue or Second Avenue bike lanes....

  1. If you are looking for Faces of Death-like entertainment, buy a shitty lounge chair from Wall-Reade and set it up by the bike lane. All day long people opening taxi doors into bikes, people blindly waltzing into the path of bikes, and general confusion as where to park, drive, stop, etc.

Such a nightmare for everyone involved.

  2. I was there watching this exhibition. They are trying to get young people an indoor space for this activity--which keeps youths off the street--out of trouble and physically fit. Great show-great idea--I applaud them.

  3. bikers need to learn these maneuvers to survive the new traffic lanes, what are pedestrians to do to cross the street safely?

  4. It might not be a bad idea to build these jump ramps across the entire width of the avenues. I'd suggest 8-10 ft high. If your bike, car or truck survives, you may proceed.
