Queen Vic opens today (and without an awning!)

After the quick succession of 2x4, Ambiance, Evolution...it looks as if the awning streak comes to end here at Second Avenue and Fourth Street... oh, and the Brit-style pub/eatery opens today....

And here's the menu ... or at least the parts of it that I photographed... There's an English menu with Bangers and Mash, Fish and Chips, Toad-in-a-Hole... and "an American Grille Menu" featuring deep-fried hot dogs and Buffalo wings... There's also an Afternoon High Tea...

Pints seem pricy... $8.50 for a Bass or Guinness?

  1. Ridiculous prices. Stella is $5 around the neighborhood, $6 at most.

  2. think they'll last until Xmas? How many alcohol tourists does bloomie think he can find to subsidize his real estate fantasy that maintains the ridiculous prices in the Village. This is his policy as vomited onto the community by CB3.

  3. Wow these prices are terrible. $8.50 for a Bass & New Castle is insane. The food is pretty expensive as well. If this bar's past and these prices are any indication, there's no way this place lasts very long.

Also, any shots of the inside?

  4. Didn't see inside, Morgan. Today is opening day, so we'll get a look later...

  5. Another doomed concept in this space. $8.50 for a Guinness is highway robbery.

Then again, there's a sucker born every minute, and a lot of them live around here now.

  6. Too $$ is right. Newcastle is one word & should be drank from a bottle using a small (not pint) glass !
    Some Brits !

  7. Bloody'ell!

    "New Castle" WTF is that??

If you're going to charge absurd prices, or try to, at least you should know your own products.

These idiots should lock the doors and toss in the keys now and save the money.

  8. This space has been mismanaged for years. It did okay as 2x4 but it's been a complete failure for the following iterations. Evolution was the worse. A bar that features flair bartending? I walked past once and saw the bartender praticing his flair bartending in a competely empty bar. It was so sad and pathetic.

  9. Yeah, I really want to find out about who runs the numerous bars and how much money they've lost over the last couple years. Construction certainly isn't cheap and neither is closing your bar for weeks as it goes on. Guess that's why they gotta charge $8.50 for a damn Bass.

  10. Those are ridiculous beer prices. Gouging. Won't be going there and will anti-recommend based on those prices.

  11. Were any actual Brits involved in this? High tea is regarded as a working class meal, most often, but not exclusively, served at home. Say, what we might call supper, as opposed to dinner.
Afternoon tea is where you find the teacakes, scones, crumpets, jam, etc.

  12. THANK YOU, BaHa! I can't tell you how annoyed I get with pretentious sods thinking they're so la-dee-dah with their utterly erroneous "high tea". High tea is, as you have said, a rather low meal, but none the less enjoyable, usually consisting of a chop or other meat dish, veg, a sweet (dessert) and a cuppa. The other thing with the clotted cream, scones, etc. is "afternoon tea" or just plain "tea." Cheers!

  13. They don't need to make money as long as they can sell their liquor license when they are done pretending to try to run a real bar. Both the landlord and the failed bar owners win.

  14. Ta, HippieChick. Perhaps they are confusing it with High Mass!

  15. The bottled beer prices are the same as Mars Bar, but at least one can still get a nice whiskey pour at Mars.
