Outside Punjabi Grocery & Deli: Where are the cabs?

The East Houston construction project continues... apparently there's work to do on along East First Street too... the path between Avenue A and First Avenue has been a mess...

Something noticeable missing here: Cabs. Punjabi Grocery & Deli is, of course, a favorite stop for cab drivers to get tea and some affordable vegetarian food... not to mention use the restroom...

I'm not sure how long First Street will be a mess... I'm wondering what kind of impact this will have on Punjabi's business...

I was ready to duck inside the other day, and saw a healthy crowd inside ... enough to deter me from going in... the cab drivers seemingly just have to park a little further away for now...

  1. Yeah, I was going to respond to your initial question asking where the cabs were and saw you answered yourself. The cabs and cabbies are still there and business in the deli seems good. I picked up some samosas, rice, and sweets there last week and there were at least three other diners there from what I saw at first glance. Please don't tell me the plan is to uproot the trees over there and demolish that itty bitty park. Do you know what the plans are for that street?

  6. Their stupid trucks were totally blocking the crosswalk sign at 1st and 1st, I had to sit there forever because I didn't understand that you could walk while the traffic light was green

  7. BTW: They (someone) have been upgrading the park on the North side of Houston between 1st & 2nd Avenues.
A path, new plants. Will it be open to the public?
