Some good news via Patrick Hedlund at DNAinfo... let's pick up the action starting in the third-to-the-last paragraph:
"I hope this is a false rumor," wrote commenter Stedman on local blog EV Grieve. "We don't need another Starbucks in the neighborhood."
Another commenter on the site, Glamma, simply stated: "GASP. NO. OH. MY. GOD...."
But a company spokesperson was quick to dismiss the scuttlebutt, saying that Starbucks has no planned store openings on either First Avenue or Avenue A.
Previously on EV Grieve:
Today's sign of the apocalypse: a Starbucks on Avenue A?
dodged a bullet. but probably still on their radar.
ReplyDeleteWell, they didn't deny Avenue B or C!
ReplyDeleteThey won't come because they know people won't support them. Starbucks pays people to go and scout out neighborhoods to figure that kind of stuff out. Overall, I have no problem with Starbucks as a whole. They create jobs and they treat their employees extremely well. Their environmental policies are also pretty solid. People in the EV need to relax.
ReplyDeletestarbucks coffee is very good and as a resident of the ev i would welcome on on A
ReplyDeleteBOYCOTT CHAINS IN THE EAST VILLAGE!
ReplyDeleteProtect mom & pops and the integrity of our neighborhood. Chains kill communities!
I don't know why people are so anti-starbucks--just because they are a chain? I've been a customer of starbucks for years and they provide great service, bring people to the block, and give jobs and great benefits to lots of people. So don't hate starbucks because it's not "mom and pop"--starbucks is no worse than the a-hole hipster serving me a $5.50 cup of latte without saying so much as a hello or thank you at [insert here the name of any of the coffee boutiques sprouting up all over the east village]--I actually get a way more comfortable and personable experience at my starbucks every morning. Starbucks you are welcome at Avenue A, B, C, D anyday!!!!!!!!!!!
