Select Burger grounded; wither Hamburger Alley?

EV Grieve reader Joe sends along this photo... Select Burger on First Avenue near 14th Street has closed... The place was open for less than a year. Meanwhile, Permanent Brunch and Burger shuttered last year. Tallgrass Burger remains on this so-called Hamburger Alley.

Burger joint fad continues: Select Burger coming to First Avenue (aka Burger Alley)

  1. That place left A LOT to be desired. The prices were pretty good, but the burger was just a big 'ole slab of meat with not much taste...

  2. No surprise. I've never seen a customer there... I actually like Tallgrass, their burgers are quite good, and sweet potato fries are yummy. I used to go to Westville for burger and S.P fries, but the long wait is a turndown.

  3. the burger joints would last if they served a decent burger for a reasonable price.
i was happy when both of these places opened (one cooked on real fire and the other had grass fed organic beef) but they were both disappointing.
select burger never got the order or the price right and the tallgrass burger had either no taste, or a funny taste.
there are plenty of burger places close by, but it would have been nice to have one on first avenue.
the restaurant business is very hard.

  4. I mean really, any of these places could be called "Just Another Burger Joint."

Bring back Stingy Lulus and Old Devil Moon. Now THOSE were great burger dives!

  5. Thinking of... Any idea of how Korzo Haus is doing? It's never busy when I walk by in early evening or weekend mornings. I think they may have missed the hamburger wave.

  6. @anon

It has seemed quiet. I tried it once and thought it was pretty good. The burger I had was a little too heavy for my tastes, tho ... I know some people who find the exterior off-putting... and the kitchen/counter seems overwhelming right there when you walk in the door.

  7. Generic looks and a stupid name are always gonna hurt you in the EV. Bad food to boot? Doomed.

  8. Korzo burgers (and their Halusky fries - yum!) are delish but I always ask them to put them in a regular bun instead of their standard deep fried one because it is heavy. They've been getting busier as of late - I hope they make it!
