Missing dog alert

From our Friend Cat Sitter in the City:

There is a little brown dog running loose. He was last seen near Beth Israel Hospital ... He was either headed west or north. Please alert friends in the area so they can be on the lookout for him. Sorry I don't have more info. I just know he is a little brown dog.

  2. When I was running around looking for this dog I don't even know, I was wishing we had an alert system for missing pets in the East Village. I guess EVGrieve.com is filling that void right now. :)

I really hope they found the dog or that someone at the very least found the dog and his keeping him (or her) safe.

  3. A sad potential update: I saw an almost identical scene play out: I was walking home from Associated with bags of groceries around 1:15-1:20, and made it to Ave A between 12th and 13th when I saw a little brown cocker spaniel running into the street. A man, who I assumed was the owner, chased him out of Ave A and called to him, but the dog ran north toward 14th Street. As the dog ran across 13th St., two girls came running up the street, yelling for people to stop the dog. The dog ran into the street at 14th Street, and there was a screech of tires as a white van tried to avoid hitting him. When I went out into the street to look, there seemed to be a crowd gathered on the Stuyvesant Town side of the street, and a few people bent over what seemed to be a little patch of brown and white fur in the street. Some cabs came up A to block my line of sight, and I didn't think it was appropriate to join the crowd to gawk. The people tending to the dog seemed to take him away pretty quickly, but I have no idea what happened in the end. If anyone has any updates on the dog's condition, it would be greatly appreciated. My thoughts go out to the dog, his owner, and friends.

  4. I saw this as well, although I got to 14 and A after the dog had been hit. There were people around him and I did not get very close but it did look like a brown and white spaniel. I ran down to ABC Vet down the block but they were closed, so I went to a doggie daycare around the corner and they gave me the number to an emergency vet clinic not too far. By the time I ran back to where the dog was, he had been taken in by an ASPCA trailer that was parked across the street to do neutering and spaying. I saw the young man that was with the dog and passed along the ER vet info to him. I hope & pray someone was able to help the dog.

  5. awwww no. I saw him on the loose walking on 15th near 1st Ave. while I was walking my own guy. I thought it was strange, but he seemed to be following a few paces behind a woman, and they both turned into Stuyvesant Park by the dog run. I assumed it was a rather reckless dog owner. Pretty sure it was the missing dog. Hope he is OK. Poor guy.

  6. I think the little dog that got hit by a car on 14th and A isn't the original dog who got off leash. Whatever the case, it wasn't a good day for East Village dogs.
