April 6

Well now. Our friend Goggla spotted this on Bleecker and LaGuardia a little earlier...

And she knows the rules. "I don't have a newspaper, but I have witnesses!" Per an International Coalition of Tree Tossing in the Spring (ICTTS) official: "We may, indeed, call the witnesses to the stand if need by. So count this as officially counted."

  1. I'm inclined to ask the ICTTS to give Goggla the benefit of the doubt here as it's clear the photos were taken on a rainy day like today. However, I think shelling out less than $2 for a newspaper to prove authenticity is not a hardship. So let's let Goggla slide but NO ONE ELSE without a paper to prove the date!

  2. Holy smokes! Just when I had Brooklyn checked off to win, Goggla shows up and takes the lead! What's the ICTTS awarding to the winner, anyway? I know they're a big organization, so I'm guessing the prize will be substantial.

  3. Well, I admit I'm impressed, though I agree with Roger_Paw on the newspaper stuff. I'm a little chastened after the criticism of my STILL HANGING IN THERE tree in Brooklyn, which surely deserves an award for sheer endurance, even if the ICTTS officials seem decidedly iffy about it now. It's stayed put on a major avenue, kept company with the foulest of garbage, & successfully avoided arson attacks! I'm sending today's photo to you, EV!

  4. So, it has come to pass. I have just received word that my entry been officially eliminated by the judges. Grief-stricken. May throw myself on tree pyre w. a can of gasoline from Hess.

  5. Sorry, I did not have any money and I was running to get out of the rain. I checked the newspaper boxes on the street and they were empty (does the time stamp on my phone camera count??).

The thing that attracted me most was the color of the tree - so orange, I thought it might spontaneously burst into flame.
