Cafe Centosette closes on Second Avenue

In recent weeks, we noticed "store for rent" signs on Cafe Centosette, the Italian restaurant on Second Avenue at 10th Street...



However, as these photos by EV Grieve correspondent Blue Glass show, the restaurant has closed...



Workers were removing equipment from the storefront this evening.


Reps for the restaurant or the realtor didn't return an email seeking comment.

    Oh no!!! That was the only decent brunch spot near me with no lines.

    That's too bad. I first started going there when it was in its original location on Second Avenue. The food was decent but there was much in the way of ambience in this space.

    original original spot was 13th street and third avenue

    Swell. Another adult-oriented business goes under, probably to be replaced by Pour House II or some similar execration.

    RIP...will miss the brick oven pizza, the pastas and especially the cheap brunch...the desserts were nice too.

    aw. i had quite a few nice meals here (and in the previous location on 3rd). just one more piece of my neighborhood gone.

    Centosette was hounded by L'Oreal, who had bought Kiehls late '90's, to get out as they wanted to expand. And Centosette moved to the current location.

    is the pizza place this place the same thing? I've always wanted to eat at the pizza place is it any good? or is it gone too?

    Too bad. I used to eat here all the time. Brunch was great and not too pricey. But they got some decent competition from Plum across the street. I started going to Plum more in recent months. The pasta dishes are simple but great. The manager used to work at Patsy's. It's like going to Patsy's without having to trek over to the University Place or the 23rd Street location!

    Really sad about this -- it was terrific and reasonably priced. Am irritated by the influx of "idiocy" that passes for restaurants. Just one after another -- overpriced drinks and not much else. But, death of Telephone...what do you want? Idiot realtors, greedy landlords, too many college trust fund brats.
    Basta.

    It will be interesting to see how many stores will shut down before rents start to decline. Can't make money on an empty store front.

    The pizza in the back cafe was excellent...

    It's October 2020, some 9 years later, I've moved to Newburgh NY with my wife, and we STILL miss this restaurant!

    In retrospect, the demise of Cafe Centosette was the first bit of handwriting on the wall as to what was in store for the EV. Since then, East Post, Cafe Orlin, Grassroots Bar, so many more. Is Jules still there? Other places may remain but they have lost their character, such as the Nuyorican Poets Cafe.

    My wife and I left the EV in August 2017. I wonder what else has closed?
