Teriyaki Boy on East 10th Street closes
EV Grieve correspondent Blue Glass notes that the Teriyaki Boy on East 10th Street between Second Avenue and First Avenue has closed... workers were clearing out the Japanese fast-food restaurant this afternoon ...

ReplyDeleteGood. That place was a ptomaine palace: every time I got something there to eat, tempted by how good it smelled, I ended up with severe gastric disturbances that had me on the potty for 48 hours. Probably the same way the food got contaminated in the first place.

the food would have been better and cleaner if they had charged, perhaps, fifth cents more.
i wonder what will take its place?

Alas, my weakness and my kind and forgiving nature were doomed to be punished...have you never eaten at a place that upset your little tummy and gone back again just because? Of course you have. Oh, and Mensa, btw. So NOT stupid, thanks ever so.

ReplyDeleteI used to eat at Teriyaki Boy all the time in the UES as a youngin' before I realized there was a Japanese/Sushi spot on every damn corner! I won't miss this place at all...
ReplyDeleteI would never touch their "Sushi or Sashimi", but loved their Chicken Cutlet Curry or Egg Bowl. Always ate there, not take-out. Never had any adverse effects on my stomach.
ReplyDeleteI found a fly in a salad from there once. Brought it back, explaining that I hadn't paid extra for the meat. They didn't have a sense of humor; didn't offer a refund, either. They were never good, I thought, but a cheap fill-you-up kind of place, and there are better of those around, ones that aren't always getting low marks from the Health Department.

ReplyDeleteI just found out it closed, after trudging a long way in the heat carrying many heavy purchases! I ate there many, many times (without incident), and also ate at the 9th St. location that closed (and became part of the pet store which I found utterly useless). Farewell, Teriyaki Boy! -- TXC
