Last evening, Goggla noticed the new restaurant on First Avenue called Upstate. And, in a really soft launch, the restaurant appeared to be open last night...
In recent years, the space was home to Permanent Brunch/Permanent Brunch & Burger/Steak Shoppe.
Earlier this month, The Observer noted that owner Shane Covey used to work at the 10-year-old Flatiron seafood restaurant Shaffer City, which closed last September. Upstate will serve oysters, meats, cheeses and craft beer.
Oops. I just edited this post. We thought that this was supposed to be called Marry the Ketchup. That's taking over the Mara's space on Sixth Street... sorry for the mixup...
ReplyDeleteEverything I've heard makes me think this is going to be a great place.
ReplyDeleteGood Luck!
Walked by this joint last evening on my way to Three Of Cups to catch the Yankee game. It was pretty open for biz and had a good pound of people in there. I was like, "where'd this joint come from?" You get so used to construction walls and plastic on unfinished facades over everything that your mind registers something different with the scene on your usual flight path at the last minute.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a cool place to hang with a small crew of pals. Will hafta check it out.
