ReplyDeleteI think there are indeed more rats than in the past. You'd always see them at night, but now they're running around during the day quite brazenly. I had one scurry right over my shoe the other day.

I saw a dead one on the sidewalk this morning...bleeding out the mouth (poison?).

I would like to know if it is true that they aren't putting out rat poison because of the one protected hawk. I like hawks as much as the next person, but does the one hawk's needs outweigh the needs of thousands of people who live in the neighborhood? Wouldn't it be easier and better if they just captured and relocated the hawk, so they could put out rat poison and deal with the problem?
ReplyDeletego back into Bob Arihood's archives. you will see photos of tons and tons of rats in that park, since always. this is not news. it's news because that playground cost a million dollars and "concerned parents" are concerned. but the rats? they're old.
ReplyDeleteIt's one hawk out of 28 in the city. If you poison the rats in the parks you have 0 hawks. It's a fucking rat, you live in New York, get over it.

ReplyDeleteIt irritates me that the news people are making such a huge deal of the hawk. Poison is poison and a risk to everyone. The problem is filthy pigs who call themselves people, who treat the park like a garbage can. I don't know if it's late-night revelers or the folks who use the soup kitchen, but the leftover food containers and the mental pigeon ladies are in large part the reason why rats are doing so well.

I'm not a parent, and I still want the rats gone. I don't even like walking on that side of the street at night. It's disgusting. And that bird lady is really no help.
