RUMOR: Which 'Friends' cast member demolished the historic East Sixth Street townhouse?

Yesterday, we had the sad news about the total demolition of the circa-1852 townhouse at 331 E. Sixth St.

Per a commenter:

Rumor has it that this building was bought by a former "Friends" cast member, not sure which one. Funny how that show portayed outrageously unrealistic NYC apartment living. The reality is so much more outrageous!

Hmm, well, we have no idea about this one. Well, it could be true, though it likely isn't.

Still, let's blame LeBlanc.

  5. you have got to be kidding me. david schwimmer, your karma is F*CKED forever in the east village. please just get the f*ck out of here and go to the west village where you yuppie celebrity scumf*cks belong. maybe there are still some unprotected historic treasures over there for you to demolish. THANKS.

  6. For realz, why would he want to live here? I'm sure he'd be all catty if residents approached him once they recognized him. It's not like he could enjoy a life of quiet desperation (which is rather what the EV/LES is beautiful for).

  7. Funny, 'cause one of the creators of Friends grew up in Stuy Town.

  8. From the Karma Police files: Gary Kress is the manager of 331 East 6th St Townhouse, LLC. That LLC is the current owner of this property. Gary Kress is also a name partner of Murphy & Kress, an accounting firm in Santa Monica that has numerous Hollywood types among its clientele.
He has a relationship with Schwimmer through Dark House, a production company whose president Schwimmer is.

  9. To the person who just left the "karma police" comment. That is spectacular. Nicely done! Will hold off just a bit here before going live with that one... thanks!

  10. Well, whoever bought it should be aware that they are subject to visits by those who don't dig monied transient-interlopers who try to remake our neighborhood in their image....
