9th Precinct asking supers and maintenance workers to meet this morning

Several weeks ago, the NYPD put up "beware!!" and "be safe!!" flyers on sections of East Third Street and East Fourth Street between First and Second Avenue...

And several readers told of having their apartments broken into by someone who accessed the buildings via the roof...

So now... if you walked along First or Second Avenue the last few days, or side streets between Second and Sixth... then you probably saw these flyers...

EV Grieve reader Steph took this photo... we're told that it's an educational-type meeting for the workers. You know, when you go on a lunch break, lock the door behind you and what not.

I took a look at the 9th Precinct crime stats for the year... As you can see, there has been an uptick in burglaries in the past 28 days — 22 reported during the period, which is 11 more than the same time period last year. (100 percent increase! Call the Post!)

Overall, though, reported burglaries are down this year compared with 2010.

  1. "ferry gates" - the NYPD solution is for us to live in cages. We pay enormous amounts of money to pay for our own jails. Meanwhile, NYPD is trafficking in guns and drugs and we can't even own a gun to protect ourselves. Cant wait to hear Ray Kelly weasel out of this one. "a few bad eggs"

  2. Grieve, you'll publish a comment accusing the NYPD of trafficking guns and drugs but wouldn't publish my comment a couple of weeks ago about the hat store lady being snooty with me when I shopped there once? Interesting choices.

They keep us down with their snooty attitudes while shills like you an your blog cover their tracks! We're onto you EV Grieve!!! POWER TO THE HATLESS!

  4. you should listen to the news today, Anonymous? A bunch of NYPD cpos and ex cops were busted running guns and drugs - that's what CBS news reported this morning, I'm just quoting the corporate media. Its nothing new, East Village used to be a center for the coke cops.

  6. there have been a bunch of burglaries on my block, via the fire escape (it's easy to get from one building to another via connect roofs). Maybe it's just a successful amateur, but the Fantomas of the East Village is alive and well and stealing your Macbook and your ipod. Lock your windows everyone.

  7. Does anyone really believe the "reported" statistics on crime?
