Please contact Cooper Union President Jamshed Bharucha immediately. President@cooper.edu or (212) 353-4250.
A Board committee is meeting [today] to decide if they will reduce St Mark's Bookshop's $20,000/month rent by $5,000. Thousands of emails or calls will influence the decision.
Tell the President to reduce the bookshop rent to $15,000 a month until the economy improves. You can add any additional comments.
Your support is invaluable.
Updated. Missed these reports from earlier... both Gothamist and Runnin' Scared noted that there wasn't any meeting scheduled today... A Cooper Union spokesperson told Runnin' Scared that the discussions are ongoing and "the outcome will be announced by the end of this month."
I'll call for sure, thanks for putting up the number! I hope they get the rent reduction, it would be a big loss to lose St. Marks Bookshop.
ReplyDeleteYou should absolutely not have posted this person's email and telephone number. While we may not agree with his decision, it is a private matter and spamming an individual in this manner is wrong.
ReplyDeleteGrieve if you didn't see eye to eye with someone who you had a business arrangement with would you want your private info posted on the internet?
Food for thought.
@Anonymous5.40 PM--Private info? Are you nuts? Both the phone number and the email address are Cooper Union's, not Jamshed Bharucha personal email and phone number.
ReplyDeleteAnyone know the outcome of this hearing? Am anxious to know if all is well. I've been browsing and buying books there for @ 20 yrs. I don't want to see them go away.
ReplyDeleteI've enjoyed this blog for some time, but you've crossed a serious line here that you should never cross with any individual, no matter how much you may agree or disagree with them.

When will people realize that the fault is with St Marks & book stores generally, and not with any landlord?
@bettyx1138
ReplyDeleteTurns out that there wasn't any meeting today... I updated the post.
Standard operating procedure. Example: Favorite TV show on the chopping block? Write-call the president of the network.
ReplyDeleteAll this contact 411 is public record, and is generic.
Trust me: President@cooper.edu is not his actual WORK email for day-to-day business by any stretch of the imagination. It's a generic account that someone in public affairs monitors.
Anons, there is nothing private about the email and phone posted here. no line has been crossed. and i wish people would stop defending Cooper Union. as educators they do good things, but as landlords? you can thank them for the sterilization of Astor Place and environs.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jeremiah, i.e. VOICE OF REASON.
