  1. I can't wait... any word on when they'll be open? Looks to still be at least a couple weeks away. Til then I'll be crying into my cheap deli coffee.

  3. What's with this trend of floor to ceiling glass windows? There's a new restaraunt on First Ave at 13th which also has floor to ceiling glass windows. A little privacy for the customers please?

  4. Good. I'm sick of seeing that stupid "Crazy Landlord" sign.

  5. I second Lux on the "what's up with floor to ceiling glass" comment. I've even stopped in to the beer-tube-special-Cafetasia to tell the manager the glass is what's wrong with the place. See, from the street, you get a perfect up-skirt view of anybody they might have sitting in front. Which surely contributes to why there is never anybody in there.

    (Ha! Verification is "uptigge".)

  6. Yep.
Floor length windows is a big mistake for a cafe. It feels really uncomfortable sitting in a place like that.

What is old is new again. How is this different from The Bean at it's original location? The windows started about 12" off the ground but really it's the same as before.

  8. @Kurt The new space is bigger and the ceiling is at least twice as high as the old space which is why it seems a bit too much to me. I like a little privacy, or at least the option of privacy.

I miss the charm of the cozy, dark restaurants and cafes with exposed brick walls and the random fireplace. There's an Italian place on Clinton like that, Franky's or something. I absolutely love it.

  10. Thanks for you posts and concerns about the glass. It's just like the first ave Bean. We will have benches all around the store inside and out. We tried to take advantage of the great ceiling height so the large windows were a natural fit ( it would look funny if we had 10ft windows and a 20ft ceiling).
    Thanks,
    Guy
    Manager.
And to the person who doesn't wanna come back just cause we have large windows .....I'm speechless. But good luck with your small windowed cafe. Ha ha ha
