Merry fucking Christmas!

Just yesterday we pointed out how many trees were still for sale alongside the St. Mark's Church in-the-Bowery...

So what do they do with the remaining trees two days before Dec. 25? Here's the scene this morning on Second Avenue via a tweet by @joshuastern ...

    Thats the saddest thing I have seen today. Sarah McLachlan should get on this issue. I want commercials w her telling people to adopt these trees.

    We bought our tree there last week -- the opening asking price for a tall tree that we liked (around 10 ft) was THREE HUNDRED BUCKS.

    We negotiated him down for another (asking price was $200) -- when I pointed out a gaping scraggly hole on one side (which will face the wall) he dropped the price to one hundred. It is a huge tree and that's about what we paid last year and the year before for the same size.

    It's a new guy running the corner this year -- he said the previous seller passed away.......

    Second, I dunno-- people who sell christmas trees need to make a living, too. Many retailers in the US depend on christmas sales for the bulk of their annual revenue. Do you suggest they just give away their inventory because it's christmas?

    The commercial phenomenon of "xmas" is one of the reasons significant segments of the population have jobs at all.........hell, some businesses wouldn't exist if it weren't for the annual need of every freaking person in the country to buy a "gift" for someone else.
