A little earlier this evening, several readers noted that a strong force of NYPD detectives zoomed in on the Sunburnt Cow on Avenue C near Ninth Street...
Detectives at the scene weren't talking, though one did offer "they won't be open this weekend." According to a flyer attached to the front gate ... the NYPD closed the bar-restaurant for ...
"Criminal sale and possession of controlled substances — marijuana."
We left a message for the Sunburnt Cow's rep.
This place has always seemed super sketchy. So many giggly, drunken sorority sisters out front for weekend brunch. Barf, Buffy.
ReplyDeleteSunburnt Cow kindly used to offer its bathroom to patrons of an outdoor theater company I used to work with--no kidding, The Blunt Theater.
ReplyDeleteSunburnt Cow has survived several years in that spot, which was sadly a bit of a revolving door for a few years. One of the cafes, one or two tenants before it was Sunburnt Cow, had the best coffee I've ever had in NYC, served in these huge, bowl-like cups. Well, to paraphrase some artwork by Ward Sutton on a recent Village Voice cover ("How to be a New Yorker"), at least it stayed a cafe, and didn't become a Duane Reade or Capital One Bank.
Why didn't EVG clue us in before it was over? Damn.
ReplyDeleteI agree with 5:58, how about some coded posts, like, "Special Christmas trees sometimes seen here" or something, come May we'll figure it out...

ReplyDeleteThanks to the comment from anon at 11:02. I'll look into that!
ReplyDeletePlease keep your doors shut. This place attracts some awful patrons. Not something that will be missed. I apologize to the trash that likes to get blackout drunk during aycd brunch. Please stay shut
