They opened last April, and seemed to offer an awful lot of options.
Per Robert Sietsema at Fork in the Road last spring:
A gyro rotates in the depths of the kitchen, a couple of guys stand around behind the counter, desultorily stirring the curries, which make up a small proportion of the full menu. There are Middle Eastern specialties, too, and an array of kebabs, fish platters, bagels, breakfasts (including the weird-sounding beef cutlets with egg), pastries, samosas, meat patties, soups, lassis, Greek salads, and South Asian tandoori breads that get as arcane as gobi (cauliflower) paratha, plus fruit juices and smoothies. The king is spreading himself rather thin, don't you think?
Apparently.
They also offered pizza too, but that only lasted a few weeks.
ReplyDeleteFor about a month, this place was a staple of mine but it seemed like the quality degraded over time. Can't say I'll miss it unfortunately.
I can't be 100% sure, but I had heard from a neighbor who spoke with the King Gyros guys. They are bringing in one of those multi chain express stops (such as Pizza Hut/Nathans/Roy Rogers). They are the same owners of the Optimo smoke shop next door and they are REALLY nice!
ReplyDeleteThis is too bad. Their gyros were really good.
ReplyDeleteNever ate there but was a big fan of their sign. Seemed a cut above what most little shops invest in.
ReplyDeleteThey gyro plates were a great value. Fast delivery too. Too bad.
ReplyDeleteThere was a lot of polish and quality in the signs and flyers, though there were lots of misspellings. I always found that funny
ReplyDeleteThat was a very green green that they used.
ReplyDeleteThese restaurants just don't have any time to build up a clientele due to the crazy rents - they either have to make it within month 2 or they are toast. You think the place that replaced Mara's on 6th St that just opened with their $17 hamburger will be around long?
ReplyDeleteI think it was the green that killed it. The place just looked kinda dodgy, I would have never walked in there. They were a stable for me on Seamless.
ReplyDeleteSpun-off into another dimension.
