Weekend recap: Lakeside Lounge is closing after April 30

On Saturday, we posted a report from New York Music Daily that the Lakeside Lounge on Avenue B at East 10th Street is closing at the end of the month.

Trixie, who owns the vintage photo booth in the bar (and ran Live Shop Die on East 13th and later Avenue A), left this comment on our post:

I own the photobooth at Lakeside Lounge and am saddened as any of you by the news of its closing. I'm going to try and find a place for it right here in the East Village though so that everyone can continue to enjoy it. I've lived on e 12th Street since 1978 and I'd really like to keep the booth in the neighborhood. In the meantime though, come on down, the bar is open until the end of the month and the photobooth is ready and waiting to take your picture!

Anyone?

  1. I'd like to bid on that -- that photo booth is an old-fashioned booth with a “dip ’n’ dunk” chemical developing process and breathless wait for the damp strip of black-and-white images to slide out... (I shouldn't haven't said that since it'll probably increase its price, I mean good for Trixie, bad for me or the eventual buyer)

As for Lakeside Lounge -- full liquor license, man; prime location for an artisanal cocktail lounge with mixologists, not bartenders.

  3. Thanks, but to clarify, we're not necessarily looking to sell the booth. We're just looking for the perfect place for it to live. We do all the maintance and stuff. Maybe it'll even stay at its present location. I haven't met with the new owners yet. But I'm very hopeful that we'll keep it somewhere in the neighborhood. So photobooth junkies don't despair, by hook or by crook, it'll be here somewhere!

  5. Really sad to see Lakeside closing. I hope the photobooth finds a new home, it's a classic!

  6. Oh, good. Hope the photo booth does stay somewhere where the public can enjoy it, as opposed to a home of a celebrity or private collector.

  7. How about at Sophie's or Kate's? I'm sure they'll be somewhere in the EV where it can find a good home.

  8. This is really sad news. I live in between Lakeside and Boxcar, and love having the option between the 2. Always enjoyed the music at Lakeside, and occasionally checking out some good blues there. Really hoping it doesn't turn into something awful! Thanks for the goodtimes Lakeside!

  9. I would love to house your photo booth at my bar, but we're not in the EV. We have a pretty nice spot for it out here in Prospect Heights in the unlikely event that you cant find someplace closer.

In any case good luck! I'm sad to see Lakeside go.

    1. Thanks Justin. The thing is, we live in the neighborhood and are able to troubleshoot the booth at a moment's notice when it's right at hand, run home for a part or tool, etc. But I'm considering all possibilities and I really appreciate your offer. :)

  10. SUCKS! going to miss the low-key vibe and intimate gigs in the back. cringing at the thoughts of what may replace it.

    another body blow.

  12. I am very sad about this. A great venue for bands and for people who like to see bands. I love to pop in, watch a band do a few songs, have a beer and go home happy. This is a great loss.

No reason was given for closing - any idea what happened?

  13. First banjo Jim's now lakeside?!! Where are we supposed to see edgy, quality music with little to no cover charge? This neighborhood is breaking my heart

  14. Too bad. Where am I going to see Adny Shernoff play now?

Fuck "mixologists" it implies the drink is more important than the customer, which it is not. Give me a good old fashioned bartender any day. Those kind of bars and people are why the EV is dead or close to dead.

  16. An artisanal cocktail lounge with mixologists possibly taking over the space at Lakeside Lounge was a sardonic remark.
